What you already know, but haven't said out loud
Conscious Living & Leadership Newsletter
I am sitting with a team, in the middle of mapping their decision flow. I map through the dimensions of flow, collaboration, and learning, and I can see that it is in the collaboration dimension where the biggest challenges lie.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been presenting cultural zones from Radical Collaboration as often as I can. We all contribute to creating a culture through how we are with each other, in personal relationships as well as professional ones.
- Pink cultural zone: when you're "pretending"
- Red cultural zone: when you're in a "you vs. me", "us vs. them" mindset
- Green cultural zone: when you listen with the intention to understand, lean in, stay curious, ask questions.
This week, one of the leaders around the team came to me and shared an insight: "I realise I have been spending a lot of time in the pink and red zone lately."
For me, that was a breakthrough. An opportunity to return to a green zone through greater self-awareness and an intention to succeed in collaboration.
The breakthrough was the courage to see oneself and one's own behavior in a new light.
That's where change can begin, when we have the courage to meet ourselves.
What do you know about yourself?
I believe we actually meet ourselves every day, but we ignore the signals. We disconnect. And I believe we can all contribute to more flow, personally and professionally, with short pauses. Notice where you are, and ask yourself what you really know. A small exercise for you:
- Stop and breathe. Put the analysis aside for 5 minutes.
- Ask your body, not your head: "What do I already know about this that I haven't said out loud?"
- Write it down without censoring yourself. Just one sentence is enough.
Use what comes up, without filtering yourself. So easy, yet so difficult. What do you know about yourself?
Feel free to reply to this email, I read and respond to everything.
